Are there many people who suffer from depression because of acne? I have some good friends that have really bad acne and they aren't depressed at all. I saw this topic and it peaked my interest. I don't think having acne should hold you back from anything, its whats inside that matters. Fortunately I never had bad acne so I can't relate to others, but I would save life is short live it no matter what!

I never let spots upset me myself but I can't say I suffer from an extremely bad case of acney. I have friends who do however and they don't let it bother them at all. It sounds bad to compare it like this, but do disabled people let it bother them when people stare? No. If they can take it in their stride, so can we.

Being depressed about a bad case of acne maybe overstating it a bit, but when there's a bad case of acne, especially in the face, one can get kinda paranoid about it. I think this is more the case for females and teenagers.

My bloke is nearly 30 and still suffers terrible zits and spots on his back and shoulders. Not so much now but his back is swimming in scars.
Is there nothing your Doc can recomend.
Please don't cake yourself in makeup like Christina Aguilera as it makes it look 10 times worse.
It might not mean anything but its natures flaws that make us beautiful.
Dont listen to those daft magazines :) x x x x

I have never been depressed due to acne, but I guess I have been saddened, but not so much that I ever feel ugly. I guess I see it as a minor, and temporary, flaw that will pass.

Never depressed here, but then I suffer from depression for so many other reasons that zits just never got to me. I kind of enjoy mine in a twisted way, if you know what I mean.... But I have been known to stay home for a few days if my face was really bad, so perhaps that's why it doesn't get to me too bad-I don't let people see it. 24 hour stores are heaven sent!

The darn thing about these aliens is that they are intelligent. They choose the most obvious places, like your nose, and the worst time, like the day of your first job interview, to break out. So it's very difficult to not be aware of them and/or know that others are looking not at you - but at them.

You need to remember, nobody is perfect. Everyone gets spots, some worse than others. It's not like the idiot who is staring at you has never had a spot in his life ;)

I think it's the zit that broke the camel's back. On top of all other stress, getting ready quickly for something, or trying very hard to make it all perfect (like a date), a zit is just not the last thing you want to see going out the door. A person might not be necessarily depressed by it, but put it on top of everything else and you can burst into tears.
I do have a friend, a gentleman in his late 40's, who has had a beard for a long, long time. His acne scars from his youth was the reason for growing it. It seemed to make him sad, mostly because his Dad made fun of it.
