Emil, my 1st had some breathing issues because she was born so quickly. The MD said she didn't spend enough time in the birth canal to push all of the fluid from her lungs. She was little, just 6lbs 7ozs, bt 3 days late. She spent 3 days in the NICU, and it was the most surreal time of my life. I was in shock the entire time. The thing was, she only had 1 30 second spell of apnea, and I just wanted her home. We were able to hold her, but it was torture, all of the wires and bells and whistles were very hard to take in. I wish all of the best for you and the wife and your new son. Please do not forget to take care of yourself. You will need to be ready when he comes home, because you will want him by your side every moment! Additionally, the NICU nurses tend to let the babies sleep on their tummies because someone is watching 24/7, and it's hard for them to adjust when you obey the rules, and put them on their backs! Anyway, I know it's difficult, but hang in there, get as much sleep as you can, and eat well, you will need the energy when you bring your bouncing baby boy home! Congrats and Best Wishes to you and all of your family.
P.S. my 2nd was 3 1/2 weeks early, and she is my Holy Terror 7 year old now, so just know that things DO work out for the best!
