She wouldn't let me film it.

But from a abcessee, I will say that that SUUUUUCKED! no painkiller, 3 large incisions and pain in large doses.

She believes it is MRSA, but there is no way to know because I have been on the antibiotics for 3 days. She is going to test it anyway and see if anything pops (HA!) up.

I will take some pics tonight and at LEAST post those.

Oh Paigiepop that sounds like it is really hurts. What an ass the other doctor was for not keeping you around for awhile. Secondly it has nothing to do with your size at all ... many people get them so please dont worry about that either.

Of course we would love to see it and if you want us to mute it, download a tune or something let EM know. I know every word out of my mouth would not comply with any internet standards! Good luck to you. Just think of how proud we will be of you!

I have been lurking FOREVER, watching videos and grossing out my roommate by making her watch with me (she obviously doesn't share my fetish :P), and now... I have my very own.. ABCESS!

It is under my right arm, started out as a tiny little spot on Wednesday and by Sunday I was in the ER. I am a BIG girl("FAT" for the rude) , and the redness wraps around from my right breast to my back. Feels like I am carrying a fat clutch purse under my arm. The doctor was nice but had no clue of where to drain it, so he cut the leading edge of the swelling (wrong place). After making me wish I was dead with all of the squeezing he announced there was nothing to drain. I was on IV antibiotics for an hour and had 2 injected antibiotics, given 2 perscriptions for MORE AB's and sent home.

Anyway, yada yada yada, I woke up at 4 am this morning and it was oozing 'material' so I took off of work and called my doctor. I will be going in to see her in an hour for her to drain it there. I am going to BEG her to let me film it and post it here as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Oh, and HI everyone :)

As a fellow zit lover, anytime I see a bump or a raised surface on family or friends, I convince them to let me lance it or at least pop it open. So when the opportunity arose to do it to myself, I jumped on it. Now, here comes the warning: details are going to get slightly graphic at this point. If you feel you may be offended by an ingrown pubic hair, stop reading now.

Okay, let's all admit that some people prefer to trim their bikini zone. I happen to be one of those people. I usually use an electric bikini trimmer, then shave the outer edges later. However, two weeks ago, submerged in the bathtub and without my trimmer, I decided to just go for it. Big mistake. Immediately following my shave, I noticed several red bumps on my "Bermuda Triangle." They were only itchy, so I decided not to worry, just apply some lotion and let them heal. Eventually, the majority of the bumps disappeared and only a few remained. Two days ago, I noticed one of them was a little bit painful, so I thought I'd stick it was a sterilized needle (NOT recommended) and try to pop it. Second big mistake. All I ended up doing was irritating the bump, and overnight it swelled up. For most of yesterday, I was in terrible pain, and tried lancing the bump a few times, but only made matters worse. Finally this afternoon, in excruciating pain, I took a trip to the ER.

The triage nurse must've felt for me, because I waited less than 10 minutes before getting a room. The first nurse that saw me told me she sees women in the ER all the time with the same exact problem. She, in fact, had a shaving-induced abscess just last year. This made me feel eons better. The next nurse said I convinced her to stop shaving altogether, and looked slightly horrified when she saw abscess. Finally, I saw a physician's assistant, and the procedure was pretty much like what we see on the site. She gave me one shot to numb me, and less than a minute later, she lanced it open with a scalpel (or what I assumed was a scalpel). The real pain was when she opened the wound with those scissor-looking things. That hurt something wicked. I actually cried out in pain. I could immediately feel the blood and pus running down my legs (it was like a crime scene in there). She then packed the wound and told me to see my family doctor in two days to have it unpacked.

The only difference between what I went through and what happens in the videos was she was really very quick about everything. I was actually surprised how soon she was done. She pressed down once, but other than that, there really wasn't any "popping" that occurred. But I guess that's a good thing! I also took an antibiotic, and am supposed to watch for a fever.

The reason why I am writing this is because I never realized how much damage we can do by trying to "play doctor." Had I not messed with a simple ingrown hair, I never would have had to take a trip to the ER. I don't think anyone can understand how truly painful something like that can be (especially where this was located!) unless they experience it themselves. I'm just thankful I didn't end up getting a staph infection! What I learned from this is I'm not going to go poking an prodding on anything more than a simple pimple from now on. It's just not worth the risk.

there are so many factors that go into these videos, and they have been discussed elsewhere. a steady hand with the camera, good lighting, angle of shooting, and not filling the video with nonsense that has nothing to do with getting the stuff from the inside to come out. we've watched zits being popped at home, in the back yard, in the pool (!), and then in all sorts of medical offices and rooms. I for one have certainly learned a LOT about the human body, skin, loculations (I just had to get that in, it's my favorite word related to this stuff), and we've seen so many examples of how NOT to go about it.

but what I'm thinking about today is based on seeing one of the latest videos in which someone takes some sort of blade that I don't think was designated for cutting skin to make a cut so that whatever is inside can come out better, then attempt to squeeze the zit with ungloved hands. nor did I see evidence of swabbing the area with antiseptic before the procedure began.

how many of these home "surgeries" end up with more complex infections and abscesses later on that will require medical attention? I've even heard someone say on a more recent video "I know how to do this because I saw them do it on YouTube." yikes!

or perhaps the human body is more resilliant and we can indeed poke and prod without fear of further complications. anyway, that's my thought for the day.

You might try putting ice on it until the ice burns then take it off until the burn burns. This takes a bit but it does draw the pain and heat out. Also...see if your pharmacy has Lidocane Plus. This is a wonderful cream. It numbs the pain while it heals it. it is a burn and first aid cream with aloe. It is also wonderful on sunburns and small scrapes and insect bites.

Well, I could afford a regular visit to the MD, it was just the wrong time to do it (there's a lot to THAT story)....so.... I went to the pharmacy late that night for my husbands meds, and asked to speak to a pharmacist. It was about 1am. She said the blisters were so big that they needed to be popped. So I took a brand new small scalpel and just poked each one gently. The largest one took 2 4x4 sterile guaze pads to absorbe all of the liquid! The holes were very small, it was no big show, so I didn't tape it. They still hurt like h-e double hockey sticks, but so far they fill up with fluid 3-4 x's daily, not fill up, but get a bit in them, I push it out with clean hands, rewash everything, clean with alcohol (you KNOW I'm tough now!) and slather on neosporin, then wrap them in sterile gauze. It isn't fun what with all the moving, but life isn't a bowl of cherries, is it? More like a bowl of pits, if you ask me. I am watching closely for any signs of infection, and so far so good. I am going to try to upload a pic of the burn before I popped the blisters and see if Emil will put it up, heprobably wont, but what the heck, it's worth a try.
I had a crappy Valentine's Day, anyone else? My kids had a pretty decent one, lucky little farts! I hope you are loved gently and truly by someone on this Godforesaken Earth! Thanks for the "ahhh poor you's" guys, I needed 'em!!! ~Tif

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident Inna. I definitely don't know how blisters like that are, but I can relate to being broke and having to pass on expensive health care. I also know the burden of having to move as I experienced an unfortunate case of foreclosure last summer. Yet another case of overinflated property value falling through the floor with too much owed to the bank. As with any money situation though, you must take care of yourself and things will work out. I hope the best for your burns and by all means, go to the ER if things are not clearing up for you. My wishes are with you and a speedy recovery. Don't forget to call upon friends and family to help with the move. I'm sure they will understand. I even had neighbors that we were not close to helping us move. It's amazing what some people will do for a home cooked meal. Like I said though, will be thinking about you and hope the healing goes smoothly and quickly.

Tiff... I thought of something else... Lavender oil is good at drawing out hear from a burn, but do not put it on a blistered area. That skin is still raw and needs to stay clean and sterile... you can use the lavender oil on the non blistered area. It also works if you have a burn from cutting jalapenos or peppers...
how are you doing my dear??

I thought most ER's in the uS are required to treat a patient regardless of ability to pay. Just tell them to bill you. Believe me, ER visits don't ruin your credit like medical bills used to. And moving? Aww, sweetie, you have the worst of all worlds. I loathe moving like you wouldn't believe. Well, at least you won't live next door to the evil family from Hell anymore. Silver lining??

Much love to you and your family, honey. Keep me posted on your burns. Thanks for making her feel more confident, MomE. :)

Hugs ~ H.S.

So sorry to hear that, Inna. I hope you can heal without medical intervention and if you can't, I hope somehow the money will be there for you.

Oh God Tiff, Let those blisters break on their own. Tepid to cool compress. Not icy. If there is any s/s of infection, get to Dr. Burned flesh is very susceptible to infection.. The mntn. woman is right Aloe offers alot of natural pain relief and keeps the flesh moist. Most important. Monitor for infection.. You could keep it wrapped with gauze, not to tight, make it damp with steril h20 so it wont stick before you wrap again. zinc oxide is good. Just dont let the flesh stick to the wrap. damp it everytime you go to change and watch watch watch.... Love ya. MomE.

Sorry to hear that the space heater won the battle, Inna.
My Momma, the mountain woman that she was, would tell you to use aloe on the area.

Oh God, thank you so much for answering. It is so horrible to have these blisters, and try not to pop them. It scares me that I can't really feel too much pain because of my pain meds, but my family is really broke and a trip to the er is $100. We are in the middle of moving, and I am scared to do anything with this damn hand (and of course I am right handed). I am torn. I just wish that the blisters would go down. I read that on the Mayo page too, but I just put my head in the sand... Can it get infected if there are no open places? I tried to send a pic to my MD, but the damn thing is too big, and I can't seem to resize it to fit into their stupid little tiny space allowed. Arrghhhhhhhh!!! I am losing it!!! I'll keep you updated on the progression, or if I give in and go to the MD, or if I start to see signs of infection... Thank you both. ~Tif
