It has spread up into his liver. We are starting on Chemo and prepping for surgery, but sadly, my PTZ hunting and posting days are coming to a halt during this time.</p> <p>On the up side, we&#39;ve started a support group on Facebook for people surviving and co-surviving cancer and cancer related issues. It&#39;s called STAB CANCER IN THE FACE. Join us for some funny violence towards cancer. I&#39;m not sure what it&#39;s called in the US - asphalt? Bitumen? Basically, that stuff that they line roads with.</p> <p>It really surprised me the first time that happened, because I&#39;d never had any kind of skin thing that smelled at all. The tar-smelling ones only come in one specific place on the body (uh, a place I&#39;m not gonna film, lol) and when I get pimples on my face or neck (rarely) or insect bites (all the freakin&#39; time) they don&#39;t smell.</p> <p>BUT</p> <p>I got a toothache yesterday, under a silver cap where I&#39;d had a root canal, and today it was worse, and when I flossed just now it smelled exactly the same.</p> <p>So what I&#39;m wondering is, have any of you heard of a bacteria, or a type of cyst / abscess / etc that smells like road surface? I&#39;ve tried to google it, but there are so many names for the darn thing - I&#39;ve tried asphalt, bitumen, tarmac, coal tar, kerosene just for starters - that I get frustrated and give up. I did find something called coal tar acne, but that seems to affect people who work with tarry chemicals (I work in a community center). Every other site I&#39;ve found has references to using coal tar to TREAT skin probs - nothing about skin probs that smell like tar.</p> <p>I&#39;ve never used any tar-based products on my skin either (and certainly not in my mouth) so it&#39;s not like I used something and it&#39;s hanging around in my pores.</p> <p>I did have strep in October last year, that turned into scarlet fever, and I&#39;m still having relapses sometimes, so I&#39;m wondering if it could be a streptococcal bacterium that&#39;s causing the smell, but that&#39;s just speculation.</p> <p>I don&#39;t need medical advice or anything - the pimples don&#39;t bother me much, I get one every couple months, and as for the tooth I coincidentally have a dental appt booked today - but I was curious if anyone had ever heard of something like that. I&#39;ve known abscesses on other people with a variety of aromas, but tar is a new one to me.</p> <p>Oh, and I love your site, btw.
