  I live next to a horse ranch, and apparently, these types of abcesses are quite common in farm animals. Some are caused by fly bites, in connection with rolling around in septic mud. I had the privilege of watching our neighbor lance an abcess on one of his horses, and the stench was absolutely wretched. He wasn't a complete turnip, and wore surgical gloves to drain the abcess I watched, sticking his finger right into the cut. It made my day

  I can tell you all exactly what it is. It's an ingrown hair that had some pus build up around it. It acted exactly like a whitehead that had gone into a blackhead. The pus dried and hardened closest to the surface of the skin, and the deeper pus didnt dry.
