  I am a 3rd Yr. Med Student in a Level 1 ER in Boston MA. I am currently in my Dermatology Rotation and my General Surgery Elective so I see on average 10 Pus Filled Wonders a Shift. This Is a Staph Infection which type however is unclear without a Culture of the Contents. I had a Case just like this except my Pt. had 3 Large Infected Cysts not 2. I numbed each 1 and as my Attending looked on, I made an Incision and broke open the Pus Pocket in each Cyst we got at Total of 60ccs of Pus and then

  66 ccs of Pus. We placed a Drain in each 1 and Bandaged him up. Pt was given Antibiotics and Pain meds and sent home to change his dressings 2x a day culture showed simple Staph.

  The Pt. of mine with the 3 Triple Whammys, returned today with a Golfball Size Infected Cyst on his back. We Drained out 40ccs of Pus and Packed the Wound. Gave more Antibiotics and Pain Meds and sent him home!

  I got diagnosed with "acute abnormal felicitous" which means, I can't wax anymore, or if I even have my eyebrows done, or shave, I run a risk of infection, because the open hairs being removed (waxing,plucking,shaving) are now capable of becoming infected by the slightest thing that could be dirty. So I always use a brand new razor, and wash my face before eyebrow tweezing!!! Cysts hurt like a bastard!!!!
