going with darkelf on this one. Work on that blackhead for a while, although I think I'd like to get it out in as big of a piece as I could, then I'd take a picture of that. Then it's the cyst's turn. I'd take my time, and have somebody filming as I work. I'm guessing that the contents are pretty dark in color and harder by now. Maybe I'd need a dental pick.

with this picture. I'm wondering if it is authentic. That hole is just a bit too perfect looking. You can do a lot of things with Photoshop. Where did you find this picture? At a medical website? If not I would definitely question it.

You could be right. Take a blackhead picture, blow it up, and stick it right smack in the middle of a picture of a large neck cyst. Now my heart is broken. Sob! Boo-hoo, sniffle.

Just a side note: A little doubtfulness is ok, but too much can be as bad as being too gullible. I know an old man (from a previous job) that is a very cynical person. He is relatively intelligent, but can also be very cynical, to the point of being almost retarded in some issues. (Not saying that you are like him, but you would definitely want to avoid becoming like him.) Here is (probably) your answer: Go to dermet dot com, click on 'Cyst', then click on 'Epidermal Cyst', and then click on page # 11. (note- among the zitorted cysts on that site, there are a couple pics of cysts in genitals scattered about)

I emailed dermnetacne to see where they get the pictures. There are still inconsistencies on this particular photo. Look at the width of his neck in relation to the length of his neck. Seems to be out of whack. Also the hole seems much larger than any pore would get yet it has a nice even edge... not broken like the skin would be when stretched out so far. My vote is still way out on this one. Just because it is on a website doesn't make it legitimate. Also, dermnet isn't a medical website. Just a site for photos about skin conditions. No doctor has made notes on this photo or any other photo on that site. When I see authentication for this photo the I will believe. Until then I still say it is fake.

If you want to call someone a tard, look in the mirror. Your useless rant about some guy you knew who was cynical to the point of being retarded was irrelavent. If your so sure you have all the answers, where is your proof this is real? I'd be happy to listen to anyone with the FACTS, but you just sound like an arrogant troll.

Your insistence of the picture being 'FAKE, FAKE, FAKE!!!' is no less arrogant or trollish. You want to insist it's fake, fine you PROVE it's fake. And don't just give us your stupid opinion. I've already done my part and posted the source of the pic.

A LOT of people go through much worse than this patient, before they seek treatment. How many news stories have you heard of where a person had a 50lb (or heavier) cyst, but didn't seek treatment until it reached gross proportions? Or how many news stories have you seen about people that became so obese that they were close to dying? Or how about someone like this guy?: snopesacne/photos/medical/maggots.asp (put a www in front of the link)

I'm not insisting it is fake. I don't know if it is or not. My point was that I was giving my opinion that it looked fake. And I can, and will, give my opinion because that's what this is for. It is a comment section. That is all I started out doing, until you your arrogant self felt compelled to call me a "tard". I could give a **** if it's fake or not, but you were out of line.

I'm not so sure why you want this photo to be real. Which website do you want me to believe? at www. dermnet dot com I find the photo. at www. dermnet dot org dot nz I find doctors. The two sites don't seem to be related and in the A-Z list I didn't even FIND epidermal cyst. I'm not even sure why they are calling this an epidermal cyst when it looks much more like an open comedone.

'until you your arrogant self felt compelled to call me a tard' 1. Well, you posted 'FAKE, FAKE, FAKE!!!', immediately after I posted the LEGITIMATE source. 2. 'I could give a **** if it's fake or not'. If you don't care, then you have no reason to insist so strongly.

'here is (probably) your answer' is what you stated before I posted. You weren't so sure yourself, obviously. How do you even know that is a LEGITIMATE source? Did you contact the 'doctors' and discuss it with them? And, in case you haven't noticed, I wasn't the only one doubting this picture. I agree with ppm...it looks like a comedone, not a epidermal cyst.

Not interested in getting into a verbal wrestling match. I guess I'm just speaking for myself here, couldn't handle having something you could probably see from the moon, on my neck without even attempting to pick at it. Many people suffer with really amazing growths because it's either too costly to get it removed, or if it isn't considered life-threatening by the medical community, not necessary to remove. It's amazing what people have to live with because they don't have the means or opportunity to do something about it either.

I work in a dermatologist's office, and yes I do zitist a physician who loves to do acne surgery. He's about 82 years old, but he still gets the same chill every time he gets a patient with a face full of blackheads (my favorite too). He gets on one side of the face and I get on the other, and we save the little plugs and we race to see who gets the most. We definitely use gloves and sterilized stainless equipment, but sometimes I catch him going after some with his fingers and I do too at times (need well-fitting gloves) and the grease from the kid's face makes things slippery. This is an addictive behavior! He'll do this until he drops dead. Not many of the younger dermatologists do acne surgery, but an uninflamed obviously old comedone, whitehead, etc. needs to be removed immediately with just a tiny bit of pressure to keep the scars at a minimum. Sometimes, it is just too late. The skin already has a hole (sometimes the skin will fill back in). This doc can literally take a horrible case, put them on oral and topical antibiotics, Vitamin A 100,000 I.U., Vitamin E 400 U, Hibiclens (to wash face in--it is sterile). He is careful about irritants such as 2.5% - 5% B.P., and he will use Accutane with a really stubborn large cystic inflammatory case that antibiotics won't help right away. That medication can be dangerous. He also uses liquid nitrogen sprays. I saw him when I had acne 20 years ago and he had me clear in 45 days and I was really bad and inflamed. He couldn't find one zit on my face after 45 days! He was impressed with my method of removing my own blackheads and knowing which ones not to go for yet. I got my nurse's license and that old man was still there and he hired me. Damn was I lucky!
