Never seen the like! Excellent and educational video format. But – WOW! That is one motherzitter of a neck cyst!! Very, very, very weird!
Excuse me whilst I go searching for my lower jaw. It hit the floor and then ran off to hide somewhere. I think it’s just worn out from all the amazing, strange and exciting videos we’ve had lately. I tried shaking the kitty treats can, but no response. If anyone has any ideas of how to coax it back, please let me know. I’d like to have my dinner actually make it to my stomach tonight. he he he

Right! That was SO wrong of them!!
OMG – that was the size of softball!!!! The incision line is at least 8 inches long. I wish they would have opened the cyst up to reveal the insides. It had been then a long time as the cyst has developed a very intricate blood supply. What a relief she must feel.

a goiter can look like that externally.
A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland from lack of iodine and is unusual in the Western world with iodine added to our salt. If treatment with medication fails, they will operate and remove part of all of the thyroid gland. I guess this could be a cyst from the thyroid, but my thought would be that we’d see the thyroid gland, although the way it’s filmed, I can’t be sure.

haha i was thinking why the heck she let it get so big i would have removed it way before that size waaaaaaaay before that size i know she felt so much better i also wish it would have been live mode but it was really cool to see what they had removed thank you to all that is leaving comments or watching hope everyone is have a wonderful wednesday im surrounded by snow rite now its been snowing since monday and isnt supposed to stop till friday ah someone might have to call in a search rescue oh my here i go blab typing again plus i jusst got out of hospital on tuesday my ear is so infected rite now ahhhh thats why i have been taking it easy i make sure i come on here each day to watch new postings no matter how sick i am i will always make it a point to come over to ptz this again by far is my most favorite website thanks again ptz for entertaining my twisted head lol i love you all it’s off to me hopping offline resting again i hope by the end of the week my ear will be all healed up ahh oh look there i go blab typing again can’t help myself im italian lol well smooches hugs and audie bear loves to all im off to bed again im gunna try to watch a movie

So many unanswered questions. Was it really a cyst or large goiter? What was in it? How did it get so big before something was done about it? Is this poor woman okay now? Does she still have that flap of skin hanging below her chin? And perhaps the most important question of all, WHY DIDN’T THE DOC CUT THE CYST OPEN TO SHOW US THE MONEY? Whew, thanks for the post Audrey.
I cannot tell if it’s a goiter or tumor just referred to as a cyst (which would be correct terminology), but I am in no way a pathologist and my surgical experience is primarily pelvic.
With that vascularization I think tumor, but I’m still searching for a good goiter dissection vid to compare, Given that thyroid tumors, along with most glandular tumors are solid, on gross dissection we may not see what we usually see here or what would interest ‘us’, TUMORS can be BENIGN, not always cancerous. Don’t know until we are in there. Because they didn’t dissect the neck, my guess is that they knew it was benign or a goiter.
(Remember our friend megaovarian tumor? I’d guess it is filled with fluid, perhaps a clearish bloody type called serosanguinous, which is amber-pink, viscous in nature (slippery but not super thick, like a light oil). It would like extra virgin olive oil or thinner…. might be what was there, nothing fun like in a dermoid or no lovely pus…)
When I had my hysterectomy I had both fluid filled and pus filled cysts on both ovaries. Benign, praise the Lord! The doc described it to me just as you have written it…”serosanguinous and viscous.” But some did have pus. Just sorry I didn’t get to see them, but I did look them up on the web afterward, haha!

Was anyone else bothered by the surgeon having only a PhD and not an MD? (unless it was an understood MD)
I’d hope it was an understood PhD but in this country we use all the letters we get, even the ones in unrelated fields, often even the professional designations in other fields. I’m a BSN (haven’t completed my MSN or NP), RN, CHPN (certified in hospice and palliative care), BA (unrelated it goes second though I got it first), FLMI, HIA, (both insurance designations I got in my old life I’d only use if advocating for the patient with SS or an insurance company so after my name it’s:
BSN, RN, CHPN, BA, FLMI, HIA

Rather disappointing IYAM. I had to go to YT and search for it because “embedding of this video has been disabled by the owner”. I have no idea what that means except to annoy me. At least the OP showed the upload info so I was able to find it. The other part was that these were just pictures and not a video.
