Lol, the Lysol commercial cracks me up!! Never touch a dirty soap handle again!! Umm, if the soap is doing its job, then there is not a problem with touching the handle. I know, off the topic, but I couldn’t resist. Next they’ll be inventing a wipe you can use to turn off the faucet with. Oh, and what about the towel or paper towels used to dry your newly sterile hands…
I think it is a bursa sack – they are cushion-like sacks around joints, and Bursitis is what they call the chronic condition when they fill and swell regularly (very very painful to live with!). My aunt had Bursitis from a lifetime of factory work but, they become inflamed for lots of reasons. Not really “pus”, in the proper sense… It amounts to one or more breaks in the hydraulic system, speaking as an engineer.
No expert, but that is what it looks like to me!

If ever I ‘worry’ about any part of the public hand-washing ritual (and on any normal day, I do not), it is the ominous paper towel handle, as you say. That marketing on that product really cracks me up, and at the same time, I think, Wow – they really do think their consumers are idiots.

@ Obsessed What is the point of a hands free soap pump when 1.) You have to touch the dirty faucet to turn the water on. 2.) You use the hand free pump and then when you’re finished washing up…YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THE DIRTY SINK AGAIN. So it’s stupid! You accomplish nothing!!
You know another thing about us trying to sterilize everything is that, if we’re not exposed to germs we don’t gain immunity to them. Obviously I’m not gonna send my kids out to eat dirt or anything but they do need to be exposed everyday household germs….

alicewonders: this video is interesting because I believe you’re right, it is an infected bursa / bursal sac. The only thing I would add is the doc might choose to I&D it but would ensure the pt. got antibiotics- as this infection could lead to a bone infection (osteomyelitis); especially when “done at home”…
oh yeah, an infection into a joint space also gets you a free trip to the O.R.; as does osteomylitis (not sure if I spelled osteo correctly but you get the idea…)

@ buggin, can you be more clear about who or what your opinion is aimed at?
@ obsessed – I know!! that commercial is just insane, the only time you touch the soap pump is right before you wash your hands! people will do ANYTHING to sell an unneeded product.
also, I’m confused about all the complaints about the commercials, my commercial opens up over the video and displays ‘click here to play’ button, which I then click and the video opens without any further problems. it’s not even an extra step (like one mouse click is difficult and time consuming) because I would have had to click the ‘play’ icon anyway. these sites take money to run, maybe we should consider memberships in place of commercials.
