YAY! for the persistent kid! I’m fascinated by botflies and even more fascinated that in the US we freak out but to the people in Costa Rica, Brazil, Panama, etc, it’s just a hazard of the jungle. I wonder how a bot fly hole is treated? Does a doctor need really strong antibiotics? It seems like UK and US citizens are usually in Drs. office’s getting them removed, but in other places where they are more prevalent they are treated like it’s no big deal. But have you noticed when they are removed the botflies leave a trail of waste? I would think that hole would have to be really washed out well, but I would also think because of the size of the hole you’d need a strong antibiotics. Anyone know?
Looked like everyone had a hand in that.
i am not a fan of insects so tend to skip spider bites and botfly action
so,it’s the maggot that results from the botfly laying its egg inside the host?
okay now not to be a party pooper here but….
MISTOFF, you did just submit this very same one, back a very short time ago. i say this only because this has been submitted twice, by the same individual. certainly if you check your account activity, you will see where you posted it last time.
no offence intended here, just thought perhaps in the future all of us should check our posting history to make sure that this doesn’t happen.
okay, everyone may now have a free-for-all on my ass for using the dreaded “r” word….
oh wait a sec, i did not use it, not even once!!!!

Kat,
That’s right, the botfly lays it’s eggs on a host, or mosquito or housefly and when they land on something the warmth of the new host (human or animal) makes the eggs come off, which turns them into the larvae that dig into the skin and grow to be a maggot.
