Hopefully someone speaks Japanese because the entire thing is in it. However, if you are a PTZ regular you can get the idea of what’s being said. It sucks that the poor horse doesn’t have someone to help it get those things out! That would suck hardcore. And see how it was thrashing on the ground trying to relieve either itchiness or pain? That makes me feel terrible.
Do these flies serve a purpose? Seriously, I am beginning to despise them.

That was amazing – I have seen that video on YouTube in English. To think of all those larvae in ANYTHING with nothing to help remove them except them growing old enough to leave on their own makes me sick. You would think if they are on the outside like the picture shows the horse rolling around on them would kill them. Inside, obviously not, and it had to be torturous for the horse!
I wiki’ed these things and learned 2 new things about bots:
1. They do not kill the host (as a severe tick infestation can).
2. In animals, they can effectively be controlled with deworming meds.
I’m glad I looked it up–now I can sleep without worrying about this poor horse…
as a horse owner i am aware of ‘bots.’ The mature fly lays eggs on the lower portion of the horse’s front legs where the horse will remove them with it’s tongue, and swallowing them. the larva attach to the stomach lining where they grow until they release and are passed out and hatch as mature flies and begin the cycle all over again.
you are to be aware of the bots on the legs and remove them with a special instrument a ‘bot knife.’ thankfully, i have not ever had to do this, and worm my horse on a regular basis.
I saw nothing in this vid to convince me that those bot flies were on that particular horse. Horses thrash around on the ground. Any horse owner can tell you that. I have several and at just about any given moment I can walk outside and find one on its back wriggling on the ground.
Thanks Nurse, that’s good info to know and I know it will make alot of people feel better. Any reason bots would go for the leg and not a meatier portion of the horse? Just curious. Spooky, I thought the same as you – I was speaking generally about horses and bots on my post. I didn’t see anything that horse was doing that wasn’t unnatural. Hypothetically though, I would think if there is a cluster of bots and a horse thrashes around on them, I would think they would die from the horse’s weight. Either way ……. I’m way overthinking this! Thanks for the info. Where are you two from that you get these bots? Are they in the US as well?
NOT a botfly fan
omg you know what else is scarey in japanese?? horror flicks will scare the crap out of you and this most deff fits in that catagory
U R right…… any video filmed up close and narrated with the Japanese language reminds me of Godzilla movies from the 50′s .
I hate to stereotype, but I have vivid memories of mutant things from Japan….
