Very cool. It’s amazing how benevolent something so visually unappealing can be.
Yeha u see how big those maggots got after a day of feeding!! yack!! but hey it works!
Normally the maggots are left on the wound for three days and then removed. After three days the become flys. Great therapy, it should be used much more often than it is.
Jeeze, OK then, there are alot of maggot therapy vids. on Y.T. Go get ‘em plinker! I guess if botfly maggots have a place, then so do the sterilized med. therapy maggots! In defense, they usually are surrounded by necrotic infected tissue, in the beginning. This technique was widely used up to the 1940s in the US. some never gave it up in other countries. The only argument is how will the FDA regulate so the multibillion dollar drug companies make a mint off of a buncha maggots. Medical professionals are pushing the reintroduction of maggots for use in removing necrotic tissue in diabetic ulcers and bedsores. This is a very serious condition for bed ridden and brittle diabetic patients. It is very difficult and painful to remove rotted tissue out of a wound. serious wounds usually always require surgery, that is dangerous in a patient who’s health is already compromised. For the health care team, the perscribed therapies are normally very time consuming and tedious. When the wound is clear and has a good healthy red blood supply, 3/4 of the battle is finished and healing begins. Maggots are very good at their job, and all the signs are suggesting soon and very soon! YECH_PUKE SPIT and FAINT not gonna be good for this nurse, I’ll be very happy behind a desk if my job requires that outta me. Thats the cold hard facts. I do love the fact that they will not benefit the drug and insurance companies. In close, I cannot deny they are an easy alternative for pts. If they can tolerate knowing their wound dressings are full of maggots!
That was really interesting.
Interesting! I guess it’s sort of along the same lines as using leeches in medical settings.
I don’t know why it is, but I would rather sit down and watch a MILLON maggot therapy vids than zit/boil vids any day!! I don’t know why the draw for me, but maggots, bot flies, guinea worm, hydatid cysts…. I love ‘em ALL!!! Now, don’t get me wrong…i still LOVE ME SOME cyst/boil/zit/abscess vids too. I guess the main problem is this….there just AREN’T ENOUGH TO GO ROUND!!!!
I feel like I’ve seen them ALL!! FIVE TIMES!! I am one sick puppy, I know….you guys don’t have to tell me.
OOOMMMGGG! *Shudders** That woman is sooooo brave! Ii think I could do it if it was absolutely needed…but how horrible! Feeling them, knowing their eating ur flesh…thats just f’d up. But it works! I hope that lady’s leg is saved…15-20 times????? On second though, I think I;d ask them to induce me into a comma instead, I still wanna barf!!
eeeyyhhh ….when maggots become flys in about 3-4 days, you dont have to clean at all !!! just take off the bandage and they will Fly away !!!!!
At the end of the video you can find a link on the bottom (where they put the “related videos”) that shows an update on how she’s doing. Her wound was completely healed and they show it with fresh skin completely covering the area. Pretty cool.
That’s really great. This is a good idea for debriding those never healing wounds.
@ sebaceous_zit @ You want to induced into a comma ??? Why not into a Question-Mark ?? Or a Period ???
tee hee… be nice cyster, have to admit though ts funny! How vout an exclamation point or italics?
That was disgusting! Poor lady =[
An astounding video clip, to say the least. Thanks so much for sharing, and I also learned so very much from this too. My heart and prayers go out to this nice Woman, as she continues Her daily battle with this very strong infection that She is dealing with.
