You are looking at a portion of a poodle’s stomach. Those are rocks they are taking out.

I beg to differ with you barbco. This is the dog’s urinary bladder and these are cystic stones. I did the research and fairly sure I am accurate in this.

Wonderful post. Just educational–all of you are just smart. Thank you for the posting and this is from someone who doesn’t do animals–but I like the surgery.

I’d like to think most people on this board don’t do animals. (That is unless I REALLY messed up th URL, and ended up on the bestiality board) ☺

Those are bladder stones. I used to work at a vet. The bladder thickens when irritated, my poodle also had the same surgery.

Hmmm, interesting theories. I’ll throw mine into the basket. When I started watching and I saw that this was attached to strings, I realized they had pulled an essential organ out of the body to do the removals of these stones. They looks just like the gall stones that my ex-husband had removed from his gall bladder, so that is what I was starting to think.

It’s a cystotomy: Opening the urinary bladder. The crystals being removed are typical calcium oxalate crystals that form there. Have removed a few myself, not the most comfortable condition for dogs or cats.
Why is this even on here? Pop That Zit has gone quite beyond the literal meaning of the site…

No, she/he is right: they are ’stones’ in the dog’s bladder. I read it on the original post, too.

Zit medicine must be doing a really good job on humans if we’re getting more and more animal stuff. Either way, I thought this was pretty cool.

@Twisted Cyster: Well, I’ll grant that it does pop out the way they were removed. I just don’t find these vids or the nasal surgery ones as really “qualifying”, and the only way I judge that is based on my own personal reaction to it. Popping a zit gives me a sense of satisfaction that doing a cystotomy, or flushing a frontal sinus, does not. Oh well…

The “stones” look like garlic cloves.

This is a dog bladder, and what the veterinarian is removing is “bladder stones” or uroliths. In dogs, it is common to have bladder stones and fairly rare to have kidney stones. I personally have seen stones removed from dogs that are as large as your fist.
