OMG i really hope this is some sort of maggot treatment. If that happened on its own that is just horrible. It looks like the maggots do a wave at one point and all start diggin in. I would love to see this in person!

Holy shit… poor child. That was disgusting, who ever those people are that just let it go like that should get those eggs implanted in their eyes. I would have liked to see how they scraped that out, even though I do not like any videos that involves kids. What a sad thing.

This is why i think this might be some sort of maggot treatment. The maggots eat the dead flesh and actually help the wound heal. Nasty but it works! Would you let maggots go to town on your head if it would help? Doubt I would.!! yack!!

The poor kid just did what he was told, probably didn’t know what was going on. What was the sudden turnover or whatever was going on when the whole group turned? Was there liquid, or did it just look like liquid? Ugh.

I did some research on the screwworm. Seems all it takes is something as small as a pimple… http://insects.suite101.com/article.cfm/screwworm_parasitic_fly

Its ok because maggots only eat dead tissue the first 48 hours they are alive and they still look small so i would say he is alright. it would feel very uncomfortable. although it looks as if they neglected to clean the area around the wound. sometimes i wonder about how some people live to procreate.

Everyone has their break point. As it has been said in previous clips, the ones where children are helpless because of medical treatment available in their part of the world are the ones that get to me most. I can’t get all ooh ahh about a pimple gone awol with screwflies. It’s just too much.

joejoe – they’re not maggots, their screw fly larvae, the blood is from them eating live flesh – they’re one of the few maggots that do. I wouldn’t say he’s alright at all.

mamapie-sorry i didn’t read the headline. your exactly right those are screw worm fly maggots or even flesh fly maggots. not many countries have these any more because we eradicated them a long time ago. this must be from Nicaragua. i think its the only place left that still has them. As long as they dont reach the spinal column all he needs is to stay in a clean room for about 3 days and they fall off to pupate. they cant try to scrape them off or they will burrow into his skin more if they are screw worm flies. but if they are flesh flies then they can be removed. though without any medicine to reduce the pain it would be very displeasing. though the maggots seem to be already 2 days old. there will be scaring but on the plus side the maggots eat the dead flesh first and also any bacteria that infect the wound so if they are in a place without much antibiotics. the medical grade fly maggots are blowfly larvae. i let my professor see this vid and she informed me of all this.

It is pretty spooky. Although it was gross to see, I do agree with most that because of the “patient” being a child, it’s not the right video to awe at.

I am amazed. A child’s suffering is safe from our viewing. I would cringe all the same if it was a grown man or woman, too. I wasn’t in awe of the video at all, it was very sad to see. This happens around the world every single day, this child just happened to get videotaped. I am not trying to downplay it at all, but it just gets to me that you would all still watch it if it was a grown man.

I For one am glad this is up here. Too many people just so easily say ” turn it off” or “Change the channel” when Feed the Children come on. Maybe more of things like this NEED to be shown. Maybe more will take a bt of their monthy entertainemnt money (one les movie rental, one less trip to the mall or bowling alley) and do soemthing to help people in countries like this. It shocks us so because it’s not the norm here. Where in other countries people see things like this on a regular basis. Now, child or not, ty for posting this and posible bringing more awareness that things liek this do go on and we shouldnt just ‘turn it off and erase it”.

Horrible, horrible! I’m glad they eventually helped this kid.
When I was a kid, I had surgery and on the same side of the head as that kid, I had a dime-sized scab from a tube that was in my head for drainage. I remember not being able to keep my hands off it, picked it and now I have a scar. I hope he didn’t pick his scab because that is a pretty sensitive spot!.

Nah not gross out videos. Sometimes we get stuff that is off topic. It gets a little stale around here sometimes so we throw stuff like this up. Also this is what our users submit so we try to make everyone happy. Don’t get all cranky, just lose your lunch like everyone else and move on to the next video lol.

    Thanks!

Shoot the partents! How could they wait so long, until the maggots had already feasted on the outer skin. They must have noticed it before.

rp1703: You have to take into context the area that these insects come from (which is southeastern Asia mostly). Take into consideration they also suffered a massive earthquake recently and you have lack of medical personnel and supplies. We don’t know if this child was an orphan and someone just happened to notice the wound. Some Asian countries believe in holistic medicines, so doctors are really a last resort for them. We have no idea of the entire story, but it is sad to think that maybe the parents did ignore it, thinking it would go away on it’s own.

I’m with ebody70! How IS this kid? Is there any way to find out–and are there any photos or video of post-treatment (how did they actually treat this)? It may not belong here, some say, but now that it IS, we should somehow get the rest of the story. IMHO (in my humble opinion).

this is wrong in so many ways. this is clearly not a maggot therapy. when people have maggot therapy done, the doctor will put 2 to 10 maggots on, and once the maggots get big, he will remove them and put more on. there are also screw flies. screw flies do not eat away just dead flesh. they eat alive. and the reason they “do the wave” is because the kid opened his mouth. put your hands were his wound was, and then open your mouth. i will feel a “caving in” type thing. if they scrape it out, or try to, they maggots will bury themselves down deeper. and one got a vacuum handy?
