1. Incision and Drainage with Wick placement. 2. Oral Cipro(an Antibiotic). 3. Pain Meds. And 4. Gauze Dressings over the Wick to be changed 3x a day.
This made me all too well appreciate Patients I care for with Giant Skin Abscesses/Boils. This grew in 24hrs from a pea sized zit. I was shocked when I saw it in the mirror! I went into my work on my day off and had 1 of the DR’s look at it. She immediately numbed it and then cut that sucker open to DRAIN! I was stunned by the amount of Pus that came flowing out. She put a Wick in it to keep it Draining, gave me Cipro, pain meds, and a wk off. I had to change the Drsgs. 3xaday for the 1st
3 days because it was Draining non stop. My Culture came back positive for Simple Staph and not M.R.S.A. Thx god. After the 3days, I changed the dsgs 2xaday for 7days then it stopped and out came the Wick which HURT!!! The Dr. said I would always have a predisposition to Boils/Abscess and would always have a small scar on that cheek. After all this, I never again thought twice about just poking my own zits with a pin and leaving them be. I have been Boil/Abscess free for 6mts these r NASTY!
Look at that thing. Wow I bet at least 3 teaspoons of Pus came out of that monster!
When she Drained it I have to see it to realize that MONSTER was on my face!
